Eagan is a city south of Saint Paul in Dakota County in the State of Minnesota. The city lies on the south bank of the Minnesota River, upstream from the confluence with the Mississippi River. The city of Eagan and nearby suburbs form the southern portion of Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area, the fifteenth largest in the nation.

Eagan provides its citizens a sense of community and is filled with a combination of lush wooded areas, beautiful rolling hills, lakes, and ponds, as well as lovely residential areas and well planned commercial and industrial areas. Eagan is a young and dynamic community with a long history. Established as a Township in 1860, it was named for the first Town Board Supervisor, Patrick Eagan. Eagan was incorporated as a City in 1974 with a population of 17,000, and has now grown to approximately 64,000 residents, making it the ninth-largest city in the state. Eagan has four times been named in the top 20 “Best Places to Live” in the U.S. by MONEY Magazine.

The community is only a 15-minute drive southwest of downtown St Paul, about 25 minutes from Minneapolis, 10 minutes to the internationally famous Mall of America, and 8 minutes to the St. Paul/Minneapolis International Airport. With great employment, entertainment, and recreational options, Eagan offers its residents a wonderful, suburban environment with close access to both urban downtowns.

Eagan’s major employers are the legal publisher West (part of Thomson Reuters), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, and Coca-Cola’s Midwest bottling facility. The sparsely populated northern portions of the city, being convenient to freeways and MSP Airport, are also home to a number of warehouses and distribution centers including Minnesota’s largest UPS hub with 1400 employees.

The major highways of the city include Interstate Highway 494 (a beltway bypass of Minneapolis–Saint Paul), Interstate 35E goes through the middle of Eagan,  Minnesota Highways 13, 55, 77, and 149 are the other major routes through Eagan.  These major roads connect the community to the Twin Cities metro area, making many of the amenities and landmarks of Minnesota easily accessible.
